Good morning!
Welcome to the latest edition of the HWC Newsletter, ushering in a fresh month filled with community, connection, and new activities to enjoy together. As we step into early spring, we’re excited to share the events, inspirations and opportunities that will brighten the weeks ahead.
This week we are touring the Canary Wharf Artwalk on Monday and meeting up for coffee on Thursday morning. On Thursday evening we learn how Improv is not just about acting but a mindset and way of living and on Friday we will be conversing with Hampstead's older residents at Henderson Court with AgeUK.
Looking ahead, please save the following dates:
7th May - general meeting
25th June - garden party
5th July - Hampstead Summer Fair
Have a great week,
Joyce

Book Club
Service by Sarah Gilmartin
16 March at 7:30pm
Taken from Goodreads: ‘The waitress. The chef. The chef’s wife. Three different stories, but which one contains the truth?
When Hannah learns that famed chef Daniel Costello is facing accusations of sexual assault, she’s thrust back to the summer she spent as a waitress at his high-end Dublin restaurant. Drawn in by the plush splendour of the dining rooms, the elegance of the food, the wild parties after service, Hannah also remembers the sizzling tension of the kitchens. And how the attention from Daniel morphed from kindness into something darker… His restaurant shuttered, his lawyers breathing down his neck, Daniel is in a state of disbelief. Decades of hard graft, of fighting to earn recognition for his talent – is it all to fall apart because of something he can barely remember? Hiding behind the bedroom curtains from the paparazzi lenses, Julie is raking through more than two decades spent acting the supportive wife, the good mother, and asking herself what it’s all been for.
Their three different voices reveal a story of power and abuse, victimhood and complicity. This is a novel about the facades that we maintain, the lies that we tell and the courage it takes to face the truth.‘

Theatre
Copenhagen
Hampstead Theater, Swiss Cottage
30 April at 7:30pm
In 1941, in the middle of the Second World War, the great German physicist Werner Heisenberg made a strange trip to Copenhagen to see his Danish counterpart Niels Bohr. They were old friends, and their brilliant collaboration in the twenties had begun to lay bare the mysteries at the heart of the atom. But now Denmark was under German occupation, the meeting was fraught with danger and embarrassment - and Heisenberg was burdened with a terrible secret.
Why he went to Copenhagen and what he wanted to say to Bohr are questions which have exercised historians ever since. In Michael Frayn’s multi-award-winning drama Heisenberg meets Bohr and his wife Margrethe once again to look for the answers, and to explore, just as they once had the uncertainty at the heart of the atom, the uncertainty of the human mind.
