HWC members enjoying dinner at Oliviya's HWC members on a Roman London walk

Hello!

Welcome to this week's newsletter in which we give you all the latest updates, key highlights, and a look at what’s coming up next.

This week is full of great outings as we enjoy the warmer days ahead. On Tuesday we’ll be heading to the Orange Tree Theatre to see Black Comedy, and on Wednesday we’ll gather for our final Speaker Series of the year where Diana will talk about her success as a dental surgeon. Thursday brings all the fun and fashion of Ladies Day at Ascot, where we’ll dress up to the nines and enjoy the horse races, and on Friday night we’ll wrap up the week with Zoo Nights at London Zoo — food trucks, live music and many animals to visit. It’s a wonderful line‑up, and we’re looking forward to sharing it all with you.

There are still a few tickets to our HWC Garden Party left, so buy yours now while you still can! Ticket sale will close on 23 June.

As the last weeks before summer pick up their pace, we’re already looking ahead to our annual kick‑off meeting in September. It’s a lovely way to reconnect after the long break. Feel free to invite all the wonderful women in your life — it’s a great chance for them to learn more about our club and the activities and events we organise. Sign‑up online.

Have a great week,

Joyce

Book Club

Caledonian Road by Andrew O'Hagan

members house in NW3

22 June at 19:30

Taken from Goodreads: Campbell Flynn, art historian and biographer of Vermeer, always knew that when his life came crashing down, it would happen in public ― yet he never imagined that a single year in London would expose so much. Entangled with a brilliant student, he begins to see trouble brewing for his family and friends. All his worlds collide―the art scene and academia, fashion and the English aristocracy, journalism and the internet―as dangerous forces enter his life and Caledonian Road gives up its secrets.’

London Bites

French Society

77 Mill Lane, West Hampstead

9 July at 18:45

London Bites meets up about once a month to explore new and local restaurants. This month we will eat at West Hampstead's French Society. A bistro? Yes. But not just any. Parisian charm flirting with modern soul, according to their website.

This venture is brought to life by the same famille behind Patron in Kentish Town. At its centre is Louis, chef de cuisine & maestro des plats, whose hands have shaped the kitchen at Patron for over 7 years. With a deep understanding of French culinary tradition, Louis now brings his vision to this new chapter in his journey, a reflection of the care & passion he has poured into every dish over the years, a petite sœur bistro that draws inspiration from its predecessor while embracing a new unique direction.

Theatre

Some Woman

National Theater, London

20 Oct at 19:30

‘I don’t want to be this woman’

Julie Robson is used to being overlooked. At work, at home, everywhere in between. But when an encounter on a station platform goes wrong and all eyes are suddenly on Julie, something shifts within her and she feels compelled to make a stand. What happens when an ordinary woman pits herself against the forces that shape the world? What happens when she refuses to be quiet?

Anne-Marie Duff (Bad Sisters) is Julie in this provocative new play from Helen Edmundson (Small Island), directed by Blanche McIntyre (Tartuffe).
