Welcome to our weekly newsletter in which we give you all the latest updates, key highlights, and a look at what’s coming up next.
We were delighted to welcome so many of you to our Kick‑Off Meeting earlier this week, and extend a warm welcome to the new members who have joined us following the event. It was a wonderful start to the season, filled with great energy, conversation, and enthusiasm for the months ahead.
This week offers a rich programme of activities across the Club, with opportunities to connect, explore, and enjoy time together. On Monday, our Walkie‑Talkies group meets for a mom‑and‑baby‑friendly walk on the Heath in the morning, followed by Book Club in the evening, discussing The Loneliness of Sonia & Sonny. On Tuesday, our Wellness group hosts a decluttering workshop, and on Thursday, Arts & Antiques visits the V&A East Museum. On Saturday Highlights takes us on a a visit to the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, and on Sunday we hike the scenic coastline of the Seven Sisters. Fingers crossed for clear skies!

If you are unable to attend an event you signed up for, please do cancel it as soon as possible so someone else may take your place.
Please be advised that our annual membership fee will increase from £50 to £60 from 1 October. If you have not yet renewed your membership, we encourage you to do so now.

Vacancy for HWC Secretary
As we start the new season, our Secretary, Charlotte Murray, has sadly had to step down from her role due to unforeseen circumstances. We therefore have an open leadership position for Secretary within the Hampstead Women’s Club. This role is open to all members, and we warmly encourage anyone who feels inspired to support the Club’s continued growth and community spirit. Taken from Goodreads: ‘In the early morning of November 29th, 2019, surveillance cameras at the headquarters of MI6, Britain’s spy agency, captured video of a young man pacing back and forth on a high balcony of Riverwalk, a luxury tower on the bank of the river Thames. At 2:24 AM he jumped into the river.
In a quiet London neighborhood several miles away, Rachelle Brettler was worried about her son. Zac had told her that he had gone to stay with a friend, but then he did not come home. Days later, a police car pulled up and two officers relayed the dreadful news: her son was dead.
In their unbearable grief, Rachelle and her husband, Matthew, struggled to understand what had happened to Zac. He had his troubles, but in no way seemed suicidal. As they would soon discover, however, there was a lot they did not know about their son. Only after his death did they learn that he had adopted a fictitious alter-ego: Zac Ismailov, son of a Russian oligarch and heir to a great fortune. Under this guise, Zac had become entangled with a slippery London businessman named Akbar Shamji, and a murderous gangster known as “Indian Dave.” As the Brettlers set about investigating their son’s death, they were pulled into a different and more dangerous London than the one they’d always known, and came to believe that something much more nefarious than a suicide had claimed Zac’s life. But to their immense frustration, Scotland Yard seemed unable—or unwilling—to bring the perpetrators to justice.’

Pianist Anthony Hewitt at the 1901 Arts Club

Described by Alfred Brendel as "a young pianist of remarkable talent", Anthony Hewitt has has performed at major venues worldwide, including London's Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Carnegie Hall. Anthony will perform a broad repertiore of classical works in the intimate surroundings of the 1901 Arts Club near Waterloo. The Arts Club has a salon privee vibe, with limited seating. Recitals are held in a small room in this charming townhouse on a quiet side street. The concert starts at 7:30, duration 90 minutes, plus a 20 minute interval.

Traitors Night

Tonight the house becomes a closed arena of strategy and suspicion. Everyone walks in as equals, but not everyone plays the same game. A few guests will be working quietly against the rest, blending in, listening closely, and steering conversations just enough to stay hidden.
Throughout the night, you’ll take part in challenges, make alliances that may or may not hold, and try to read the room without giving yourself away. No theatrics — just social deduction, sharp instincts, and the pressure of knowing someone is lying straight to your face. Stay alert. Pay attention to what people say… and what they don’t. By the end of the night, only the most perceptive players will still be standing.

Pickleball is a fast-growing, low-impact paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Played on a small court with a low net, 2-4 players use solid paddles to hit a hollow, perforated plastic ball. It is accessible to all ages and skill levels, emphasising strategy, quick reflexes, and social interaction.
Our Fall term starts 30 September and ends 9 December, with a break for half-term.

FIWAL’s aim is to broaden friendship, understanding and communication amongst international women in London.
