Sunday 8 November 2026
A very successful Traitors night!
Hello!
Welcome to our weekly newsletter, bringing you the latest Hampstead Women’s Club news, highlights from the week ahead, and plenty of opportunities to connect, learn and have fun together.
This week, we'll enjoy a scenic walk across Hampstead Heath to the beautiful Kenwood House, catch up with fellow members at our popular Sip & Social at The Horseshoe Pub, and settle in for a screening of Wicked (with the fabulous Olivia Colman) at the Everyman in Belsize Park. We'll also hear practical advice from the team at Boost on how to age well, and continue sharpening our Mah Jong skills and strategies during a friendly session at the Bull & Bush, followed by drinks and dinner.
A reminder that bookings for our Christmas Lunch at The Roebuck on 4 December are filling up quickly. Ticket sales close on 25 November, and menu selections, available on our website, must be submitted by that date. We only have a handful of places remaining, so we encourage you to book soon to avoid disappointment.
Please also remember our gift drive in support of the Salvation Army's Be A Star Gift Appeal. Every donation, no matter how large or small, will help bring some festive cheer to those who need it most. Gifts can be brought along to our Christmas Lunch, and we'll ensure they are delivered to the appeal.
Wishing you a wonderful week, and we look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.
Warm regards,
Joyce

The Salvation Army's “Be a Star” Christmas Gift Appeal 2026
HWC Community Outreach is calling on Club members throughout Northwest London to donate new, unwrapped toys to the Salvation Army’s “Be a Star” Christmas Gift Appeal. These tough economic times mean that even more needy families will be turning to the organisation for support at Christmas.
Guests attending the Holiday Lunch at The Roebuck on 4 December are warmly encouraged to add an extra present or two to their holiday shopping and bring them to the luncheon. The donated gifts will be collected and transported to the Salvation Army headquarters in Chalk Farm, where they will be distributed through local schools and other community agencies to children and young people in need. Suitable gifts range from soft and educational toys for younger children to games, books, accessories and store vouchers for older children and teenagers.
Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Book Club
Lady Tan's Circle Of Women by Lisa See (352 pages)
Members house in NW3
23 November at 19:30
Taken from Goodreads: ‘According to Confucius, “an educated woman is a worthless woman,” but Tan Yunxian—born into an elite family, yet haunted by death, separations, and loneliness—is being raised by her grandparents to be of use. Her grandmother is one of only a handful of female doctors in China, and she teaches Yunxian the pillars of Chinese medicine, the Four Examinations—looking, listening, touching, and asking—something a man can never do with a female patient.
From a young age, Yunxian learns about women’s illnesses, many of which relate to childbearing, alongside a young midwife-in-training, Meiling. The two girls find fast friendship and a mutual purpose—despite the prohibition that a doctor should never touch blood while a midwife comes in frequent contact with it—and they vow to be forever friends, sharing in each other’s joys and struggles. No mud, no lotus , they tell from adversity beauty can bloom.
But when Yunxian is sent into an arranged marriage, her mother-in-law forbids her from seeing Meiling and from helping the women and girls in the household. Yunxian is to act like a proper wife—embroider bound-foot slippers, recite poetry, give birth to sons, and stay forever within the walls of the family compound, the Garden of Fragrant Delights.'

Chicks 'n Flicks
Wicker
Everyman Belsize Park
10 November at 13:15
We will meet in the cinema lobby at 13:00 to buy our tickets and stay after to discuss the film.
Olivia Colman gives yet another bravura performance in this delightfully offbeat comedy, playing an outcast from her village who orders herself a wicker husband.
Fisherwoman is unmarried, allegedly smelly, constantly teased by her small-minded neighbours and desperate to keep to herself. But when she decides to see what life would be like with a very particular kind of mail-order husband, what arrives (a statuesque Alexander Skarsgård) soon sparks jealousy and creates chaos. Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s wonderfully eccentric fable is, at its core, a gentle love story.
Chicks 'n Flicks meets once a month to catch the latest blockbuster or an art house film at one of our local cinemas during the day. Please note, everyone will purchase their own ticket at the cinema.
